Why Presenting at the Drama Queensland Conference is Special

This weekend is Drama Queensland’s 2026 Conference, a conference in which Play on Stage, like the previous year, will have a trade table where educators can come and say hello and purchase some of our physical productions.

But this year is particularly significant as myself and Harry Fritsch, our marketing specialist and head of playwrighting, will be presenting a workshop at the conference about creating plays with young people.

Let me nerd out here for a bit… As a high school student, I’d always fantasised about attending a DQ conference as for a theatre kid, it was the perfect day to go to workshops facilitated by Brisbane’s greats - from artists from Queensland Theatre and Shock Therapy to playwrights who’d published and/or produced work in Brisbane.

When I attended my first drama conference while I was studying acting in university, it lived up to all of my expectations. I even left a workshop earlier to network with the companies who had trade tables; companies that I’ve now worked with in various capacities. A highlight was when Wesley Enoch gave me a hug in greeting and when Daniel Evans came over to give me a hug for starting my own business.

Us presenting at the conference is a ‘Mum, I made it moment’. A very momentous occasion for little Virag.

If you’re an educator or an enthusiast for young people, we would love for you to drop by and say hello this weekend!
