PLAYWRIGHTING AND CREATIVE WRITING.
We are passionate about playwrighting.
At Play on Stage, we are big believers in giving young people the opportunity to tell the stories they want to tell. Our Brisbane playwrighting classes and programs have been crafted to provide the space and support for children and teen participants to let their imaginations soar!
Facilitated by experienced, published playwrights, we guide participants to create scripts that speak to their interests and are performance ready.
Regardless of a participant’s writing ability or experience, we believe that playwrighting and storytelling belongs to everyone and is a wonderful avenue for creative and personal expression.
The First Two.
A New Play Development Opportunity for Established and Emerging Writers
Have you started writing a new play for young people?
The First Two is a brand new Play on Stage initiative designed to support playwrights interested in creating original theatre for young audiences.
This development opportunity gives selected writers the chance to receive professional dramaturgical feedback, hear their work performed aloud by young actors, and potentially continue developing their script for future publication or production opportunities.
What Successful Applicants Receive
Five selected playwrights will receive:
A free 30 minute Zoom dramaturgical feedback session with resident playwright Harry Fritsch
A staged reading of the first two scenes or first ten pages of their script performed by professional young actors on the evening of Saturday the 18th of July
The opportunity to continue receiving dramaturgical support following the reading, if participants chose to.
Selected works may also be considered for:
Publication through Play on Stage Publications
Future programming as part of the Play on Stage 2027 season
