Why Oakleigh State School Students Love Starting Their Day With Drama
For many families, the school day begins well before the first lesson. Parents are organising lunches, getting children ready, and juggling busy morning schedules before heading off to work. At the same time, children are arriving at school with energy to spare, ready to connect with friends and begin the day.
At Oakleigh State School in Ashgrove, Play on Stage offers a creative way to make the most of those early mornings through our before-school drama classes. These are currently the only before-school classes offered by Play on Stage, providing Oakleigh students with the opportunity to develop their creativity and confidence before the school bell rings.
A Creative Alternative Before the School Day Begins
Rather than waiting for the day to start, students can begin their morning immersed in storytelling, acting, improvisation, and imaginative play.
Our before school classes follow the same curriculum as our Primary term based drama programs, meaning students receive the same high quality learning experience found across all Play on Stage classes. Throughout the term, they develop acting techniques, communication skills, creative thinking, and ensemble collaboration while working towards an exciting end of semester production.
By the time students head into their classrooms, they have already spent the morning creating, performing, and building confidence alongside their peers.
Benefits for Students and Parents
Drama provides a positive and engaging way for young people to transition into the school day. Creative activities encourage students to focus their attention, express themselves, and work collaboratively with others before formal learning begins.
For parents, these classes also offer a practical morning routine. Rather than arranging alternative before school care, students can spend their time participating in a structured creative program led by experienced facilitators who are passionate about supporting young people through the arts.
It is an opportunity for children to begin the day feeling connected, engaged, and ready to learn.
