Why Drama at St Peters Lutheran College Is a Creative Way to Finish the School Day
For many young people, the hours after school are a chance to switch gears. Homework can wait for a little while. There are stories to invent, characters to discover and plenty of room to get moving.
Our primary drama classes at St Peters Lutheran College give students the opportunity to do exactly that, with Play on Stage bringing our Brisbane acting program directly to the school community.
With Term 4 registrations now open, it is a great time for St Peters families to discover what happens when the school day finishes and the drama games begin.
Drama Classes Right Where Students Already Are
One of the biggest advantages of running Play on Stage classes at St Peters is the convenience for families.
Students can take part in a dedicated drama program within a familiar school environment, without families needing to travel across Brisbane for another afternoon activity. The setting is already part of their everyday life, which can also make joining a new extracurricular activity feel much more comfortable.
There is something lovely about seeing familiar school spaces become places for imagination after the regular day has finished. A classroom or rehearsal space can suddenly become a mysterious castle, a television studio or wherever else the students decide their story should take them.
It also gives St Peters students another opportunity to connect with members of their school community through a shared creative interest.
A Different Kind of Afternoon Activity
Drama gives young people permission to experiment.
Throughout our classes, students explore improvisation, character development and storytelling through practical activities designed to keep them involved. There is room for energetic performers who are eager to jump into every activity. Quieter students are given the time and support they need to find their own way into the creative process.
Working together also means learning how to listen to somebody else's idea and build upon it. Students gradually become more comfortable contributing their own thoughts while discovering what can happen when an entire group commits to making something together.
Most importantly, drama offers an afternoon activity where imagination has somewhere to go.
Creating Something of Their Own
Original storytelling sits at the heart of our approach at Play on Stage.
Rather than treating students as performers who simply need to follow instructions, our classes encourage them to contribute creatively to what happens in the room. Drama games and devising activities give students opportunities to shape characters and experiment with their own ideas.
Across the year, our programs also give young performers the chance to work towards performances, allowing them to see how those early ideas can gradually become something ready to share with an audience.
For St Peters students who already love theatre, Play on Stage is a place for them to develop that passion. For those trying drama for the first time, Term 4 could be the beginning of something entirely new.

Our St Peters Lutheran College classes:
WEDNESDAY: Early Primary/Middle Primary (Grades Ones-Three) There are two classes on a Wednesday.
THURSDAY: Early Primary (Grades One-Two), Middle/Upper Primary (Grades Three-Six).
Our Thursday classes have a waitlist.
