Christmas is getting closer, Brisbane is beginning to sparkle, and before long the school year will be finished for 2026. Trees are appearing in living rooms, lights are starting to glow across neighbourhoods, and that unmistakable festive excitement is beginning to creep into December plans.
At Play on Stage, we are getting into the spirit with three December school holiday drama programs at our Paddington studio, giving young people plenty of opportunities to create and perform before Christmas Day arrives.
Create a Christmas Story in Play in a Week
From Monday 14 December to Thursday 17 December, students from Prep to Grade 6 can join us for Play in a Week. Across four days, participants will work with the Play on Stage facilitating team to create an original production inspired by The Midnight Christmas Market.
Students will explore playwriting and improvisation as their story takes shape, before rehearsing the finished work together. At the end of the program, they will perform their original play at a local theatre for family and friends.
It is a wonderfully creative way to spend the first few days of the holidays while the countdown to Christmas continues.
What Has Gone Missing at the North Pole?
On Friday 18 December, Play in a Day returns with a suitably festive challenge. Students from Prep to Grade 6 will have one day to transform the stimulus The North Pole’s Lost and Found into a ten-minute original play.
Participants will be divided between Early Primary and Upper Primary groups, giving students the chance to create with others close to their age. Families can return at the end of the day to watch what they have devised.
Finish With Some Christmas Theatresports
On Monday 21 December, students from Grades 3-to-8 can join our Christmas Theatresports Program. The day will be filled with improvisation games given a festive twist, making it a playful option for young performers who want to keep creating right up until Christmas week.
Unlike our other December programs, this workshop does not include a final performance. The focus is simply on getting involved and enjoying a day of theatre games together.
All three programs take place at our Paddington Youth Drama Studio at 97 Fernberg Road. With Christmas approaching quickly, now is the perfect time to add a little theatre to the festive season.
Registrations for our December school holiday programs are open now. Visit our school holidays page to learn more and enrol your young person to join us for some Christmas creativity.
